Yonhap, citing the Coast Guard, said the blaze was extinguished around 04:00 on 28 August. The fire is suspected to have started in the engine room and did not reach the oil storage spaces.

Eighteen crew were aboard. Two men, one in his 60s and one in his 20s, were found in cardiac arrest in the engine room, taken ashore, and died. The other 16 were rescued and reported stable. Eleven of the 18 were Korean; seven were foreign nationals.

Munhwa Ilbo, citing Incheon Coast Guard Station, names the ship DL Amber (DL 앵버호), 7,333 gt, carrying about 12,000 kL of bunker C from Incheon North Port toward Ulsan. The report to the Coast Guard came through Incheon Port VTS. Yonhap and Chosun Ilbo describe a 7,000-ton-class products tanker without printing that name. VesselFinder lists DL Amber as IMO 9576909; that number is not in the fire wires.

Coast Guard units fought the fire through the night. Cause and damage remain under investigation. The vessel is to be inspected before any tow.
