IMO has verified at least 70 attacks on international shipping and 19 seafarer deaths. Up to 400 ships carrying around 6,000 seafarers have been unable to leave the Persian Gulf safely.

The IMO highlighted-incidents table, current as at 26 August, lists 70 confirmed incidents and 19 fatalities. The latest named row is Metro Venetian (IMO 1013391), damaged 24 August, 9 NM northeast of Ash Shishah, Oman. No pollution. The table also records Minoan Dignity (IMO 9294484) on 17 August and Riyan Star (IMO 9156761) on 15 August, each with one seafarer fatality.

In July the IMO Council reaffirmed that transit passage through straits used for international navigation must not be threatened, impeded, denied, hampered, impaired or suspended. On 8 July the Secretary-General told Council that an evacuation framework with Oman had moved 136 vessels and 2,900 seafarers on two alternative routes after the TSS could not be used because of sea mines. That process has since been paused. He said he was still seeking guarantees that vessels can use those routes without the risk of attack.
